Meet the Governors
Mr John Cresswell
Chair of Governors
I am a Local Authority appointed Governor and Chair of the Finance, Premises & Staff Committee. I live locally with my wife and work as an IT Manager for an Inspection and Testing Company. My hobbies and interests include walking, cooking and folk music.
Mrs Chris Gill
I have been a co-opted and community governor at West Kirby Primary School for about 25 years now.
I have worked on all of the committees over the years. I do have a special interest in Safeguarding, Special Needs and Early Years.
I have worked as a Counsellor with Children and Adults for 18 years in various places such as Probation, Rape and Sexual Assault Centre, Sure Start Centres and presently at schools across Wirral, Liverpool and Cheshire.
I run a Domestic Violence Programme for Women in Wirral.
I have been a Supervisor, Special Needs Coordinator and Safeguarding Deputy at St Agnes Pre School for over 35 years - now just one morning a week, but love it!
I sing in The Liverpool Harmonic Gospel choir and I play the Melodeon in the band for the Mockbeggar Morris dancers.
As well as the above, I love walking and swimming.
Mrs Catherine Howell
I am a parent governor, taking up the role in 2018. I have two sons, the elder of which is enjoying his time at WKPS. By profession I am a secondary school Maths teacher and have worked both locally and internationally. I enjoy running and yoga and I am a qualified yoga teacher. I am passionate about education and well-being and hope to support the school with my time and professional skill set.
Mrs Kate Takashima
I have been Headteacher here at West Kirby Primary School since September 2009 and prior to that my own children attended this school.
As an educationalist and a parent, along with the staff and governors of the school, I am committed to the development and fulfilment of each child and to providing the best possible education for all of our children.
When not at work, I love spending time with family and friends and walking on the beach or up in the hills of North Wales enjoying the views- or the rain!
Mrs Tracey McCann
I have been a staff governor at West Kirby since 2012; I previously held the post of parent governor at my children’s school. I am married with four grown up children. My aim as a governor is to do everything I can to make sure that everything is in place for children at WKPS to reach their full education potential. I enjoy being on our Governing Body and see the vital role that governors do in working with the school to ensure that it delivers a good quality education.
Mr Gary Price
I am an Associate Director for Strategy and Partnerships at Arrowe Park Hospital, after first starting work in the NHS 17 years ago as a clinician. I have lived in West Kirby all my life and I am married with 3 children, all of whom attend West Kirby Primary.
Outside of work, I am a voluntary crew member of West Kirby RNLI and a member of West Kirby United Reformed Church.
Mrs Kim Waters
I run my own graphic design business in West Kirby. I have lived in Wirral all my life, but moved to West Kirby in 2008 and just love it. My two children attend this school which is why I was so keen to become a parent governor. In my spare time, I like to go running and on walks with the family and the dog! I am also a member of the local community group One West Kirby.
Mrs Eleanor Hope
My name is Eleanor Hope and I am a co-opted governor. I have three children – two of them attend WKPS. I grew up in Liverpool before moving to Edinburgh to do a Maths degree at university. We moved to the Wirral after getting married and I am now a Maths teacher at a local secondary school. In my spare time I love playing netball.
Mrs Geraldine Evans
I am a co-opted governor and took on the role in 2018. By profession, I work as a Senior Officer in the Human Resources Department of a Neighbouring Local Authority. I hope to be able to use the knowledge and skills I’ve gained throughout my career for the benefit of the school and its pupil’s.
On a personal level, we moved to the Wirral about 6 years ago and one of my two daughters attend West Kirby Primary School. Out of work I enjoy spending time with friends and family and walking our dog.
Mr Aaron Leach
My name is Aaron Leach and my daughter attends WKPS. I am a Headteacher and Associate Governor of a large, outstanding primary school in Liverpool. I feel passionately about providing the children of our village with the best possible start at life through a high-quality education. I firmly believe I have the experience and expertise to provide the support and challenge needed to ensure the school builds on its strengths and continues to improve.
As a Headteacher, I am aware of current education policy and innovations in the sector, particularly in relation to safeguarding as I am the Designated Safeguarding Lead at my school. I sit on the School Improvement Liverpool Safeguarding Focus Panel, one of only twenty members. Safeguarding children is a real passion of mine.
I have extensive experience of teaching across the phases from EYFS to upper Key Stage 2 and have worked in requires improvement, good and outstanding schools. I am also responsible for SMSC/British Values, Curriculum, the school website and social media platforms in my current role.
Mr Bryn Williams
I am a parent Governor with a background in science and education. I grew up on the Wirral and now live here in West Kirby with my wife and two children.
I have a doctorate from Bristol University and pursued my first career in scientific research in Bristol, Switzerland and California where I investigated the biology of learning and memory at the level of the brain cell, including how this was affected by the development of Alzheimer's disease.
For the past 15 years, I have been in education, teaching biology at secondary and further education level. I currently work at the City of Liverpool College where I am a biology lecturer and a teaching and learning coach supporting the effective use of digital technology in teaching.
With my daughter here at West Kirby Primary School in Year 5, I strive to be a supportive and, where necessary, a challenging Governor ensuring the strategic aims of the school always remain focussed on helping our children achieve their highest potential.
Mrs Louise Wood
I am a co-opted Governor and I have two young children one of whom is at WKPS, the other in nursery.
I work full time as Head of Internal Communications at the University of Chester having previously worked in both the public and private sector including pharmaceutical, NHS, FMCG and Public Health.
Outside of work I am President of West Kirby Women's Institute and a Director of the Cheshire Commonwealth Association. I am also half French.
I am passionate about the importance of clear communication and look forward to supporting the school's work in ensuring a superlative experience for both the children and parents.
