Library Newsletter 11 2022

Last week we launched our very own Summer Reading Challenge during our “Beach Day”.
The children were shown a PowerPoint helping them to understand the importance of reading over the summer holidays, and we explained the “Summer Slide” - how some of the steps they have taken to improve their reading can be lost if they don’t attempt to keep up with their reading. Please also see our last Reading Sway on the website for further information.
We decided to create our own challenge as we understand that not all families visit the West Kirby Library in The Concourse to take part in the National Reading Challenge for many reasons. This challenge is also dependent on reading books and we understand that not all children,  at certain stages in their reading journey, choose to read books.
We have therefore created a challenge that encourages all our pupils to identify themselves as readers, providing choice as to what texts they read over summer, especially to encourage our reluctant readers.
Please find a link to the Sway Reading Challenge that we showed our pupils in class, and a copy of the paper challenge for the children to fill in.
- We will be celebrating all completed entries on our return to school in September
- There will be a box in the library to place all completed entries
- There will be a postbox in the library to post their postcards to Library Jane
- There will be a Grand Prize for a lucky winner chosen from the completed entries
Everything can also be found on the school website
Please encourage your children to attempt this fun activity over the summer. It can also be used in conjunction with the West Kirby Library challenge.
Let’s keep our children reading for pleasure, ready to build and grow in the next academic year with all the reading initiatives we are planning in our Reading School.
